The French Quarter is full of bars, but they do not all serve the same purpose. A stop at Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop is about the setting; Pat O’Brien’s is a classic group experience; Molly’s at the Market feels more like a neighborhood bar; and Tropical Isle brings the full Bourbon Street party.
We start with those four staff picks and add places that actually publish recurring happy hours, so this guide works whether you are looking for one memorable drink or a less expensive afternoon in the Quarter.
Happy hours, event schedules and menu prices can change, especially around holidays and major festivals. Check the venue’s current menu or social pages before heading out. Research updated October 2026.

Our staff’s favorite bars in the French Quarter
Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar
Where: 941 Bourbon Street. Happy hour: No current recurring happy-hour discount confirmed.
The setting is the reason to visit Lafitte’s. Low light, thick old walls and centuries of New Orleans lore give this Bourbon Street landmark a mood you won’t find at a modern sports bar. Order a drink, take in the historic atmosphere and see whether the piano area is lively. Its famous age and connections to Jean Lafitte are part documented history and part local legend. There is no clearly published recurring happy hour to promise here; include it on a French Quarter crawl for the experience, not for an advertised price cut.

Pat O’Brien’s
Where: 718 St. Peter Street. Happy hour: Special events and seasonal promotions appear, but no regular seven-day happy hour verified. Closed Tuesdays on the venue’s current schedule.
Pat O’Brien’s is a classic New Orleans group outing: the famous Hurricane, an atmospheric courtyard and a piano lounge that can turn a casual stop into a singalong. It belongs on nearly any first-time French Quarter itinerary, and locals still bring visiting friends here for the experience. We did not find a reliably recurring weeklong happy-hour schedule; occasional promotions are event-specific. The posted current hours also show the venue closed on Tuesdays, an important detail before sending readers there on a Tuesday bar crawl.

Molly’s at the Market
Where: 1107 Decatur Street. Happy hour: No current recurring timed happy-hour promotion confirmed.
Just off the busiest stretch of the Quarter, Molly’s at the Market is a comfortable stop for people who like neighborhood bar energy mixed with French Quarter character. Its Decatur Street location catches a lively cross-section of locals, industry workers and visitors. It’s a great place to reset between busy stops or settle in over an unhurried drink. Molly’s advertises daily operating hours, but we found no current, specific repeating happy-hour offer to publish. It remains on the staff-favorites list for its atmosphere.

Tropical Isle
Where: Multiple Bourbon Street locations. Happy hour: No verified chain-wide recurring happy-hour schedule; check individual locations.
Tropical Isle is unabashedly Bourbon Street: lively music, colorful drinks and the famous Hand Grenade. Several locations line Bourbon, so it’s easy to include in an afternoon or evening exploring the French Quarter. This is the stop for visitors who want the playful side of the neighborhood rather than a quiet conversation over a classic cocktail. Specials can differ from location to location, and a current chain-wide happy-hour schedule is not published on the official homepage. Pick your location and check its daily promotions.

More happy-hour stops to add to the route
The Will & The Way
Where: 719 Toulouse Street. Happy hour: Daily, 3–7 p.m., confirmed on the bar’s website.
The Will & The Way gives the French Quarter a gentler pace. The rooms and tucked-away corners make it well suited to a date, catching up with a friend or getting away from the loudest part of Bourbon Street. It also makes the happy-hour calendar easy: the venue advertises its daily 3–7 p.m. window directly on its website. With a kitchen that typically stays open late, this is one of our most practical recommendations when the plan involves drinks and some food rather than just a quick round.

Tujague’s
Where: 429 Decatur Street. Happy hour: Daily, 3–5 p.m., according to its website; walk-in bar happy hour.
For a French Quarter afternoon with a side of history, Tujague’s is a good change of pace. The long-running restaurant offers a bar happy hour with New Orleans cocktails and snacks in a more traditional setting. Its website specifies a daily 3–5 p.m. walk-in happy-hour period, and recent New Orleans tourism information details seasonal cocktail and food deals. Because the restaurant has occasionally published different hours for different services, double-check the bar schedule before making a special trip.

Which day is best for happy hour here?
Every day is different: the weekday pages emphasize actual discounts, while the neighborhood guide keeps the classic non-happy-hour bars in view. Wednesday and Thursday are strong for midweek-specific promotions; Saturday and Sunday focus on venues that explicitly offer weekend deals.
