The Jewel of Mid City

City Park is located in the Mid-City\Lakefront area of New Orleans. Over a century ago, New Orleans philanthropist John McDonogh donated 100 acres of land for what has today evolved into the fifth largest urban park in the US. City Park encompassing 1,500 acres. Approximately 14 million visitors come through the Park each year to enjoy its magnificent oak trees, picturesque statues and fountains, sports and recreational facilities, and historic buildings.

The Park is home to the New Orleans Museum of Art, the largest collection of mature live oaks in the world, a kiddy amusement park, tennis courts, several golf courses, fishing, horseback riding, and a few other nifty things to do.

The art gallery has a collection of Faberge eggs among other things. The public golf facility has a lighted driving range and several nice courses. During the holiday season, the park lights up with a spectacular light show. Taking Esplanade all the way from the Quarter is the easiest way to get to the park and it runs right into the museum.

It’s the only full-sized golf course inside of the heart of city of New Orleans. Some of the nicer courses are either in the burbs, or the West bank. They have a driving range and several courses.

City Park Tennis Courts

City Park is home to the largest and nicest public tennis courts in New Orleans, they are also clay. If you have never played on clay, it’s great. It’s not nearly as hard on your joints. They have leagues and lighted courts. Reservations are needed most of the time.

StoryLand

A cool litter park for young kids. The park features 18 larger-than-life storybook sculptures, featuring classic characters from Grimm and Mother Goose nursery rhymes. There is also one very cool Carousel and a great place for the kids during Christmas time.

Fishing in City Park

We normally go fishing in the Marshes and Bayoo’s outside of nola. But if your in town and want a little fishing close to downtown, this is supposed a good place.  Bass, catfish, perch and other fish can be caught in the Park’s 11 lagoons. City Park is home to the Big Bass Fishing Rodeo and Fishtival, a one-day event featuring music, exhibits, and fishing for all.

Horseback Riding in City Park

If your are looking for something fun to do in New Orleans, Equest Farm is a 13-acre equestrian center offering horseback riding lessons, boarding, summer camps, and family rides in the heart of the Big Easy.

Boat Rides and Bike Rentals in City Park

Venetian style gondola ride through City Park’s bayous and lagoons from NOLA Gondola. This is a fabulous date idea. The park also has swan pedal boats and kayaks for rent. After the sun goes down, you can explore the magic of City Park after dark with LED-illuminated Swan Boat Night Rides.

Dueling was not outlawed in the Park until 1890!
